An antique English pearlware figure group titled "Contest", dating to the late Georgian period, circa 1790–1810.
The group depicts three figures in a playful contest, standing on a naturalistic base with the title "Contest" painted to the front. Hand decorated in colourful overglaze enamels typical of late 18th-century English pearlware, it remains an attractive display piece with good period character.
Overall, the figure displays well from the front.
There is a broken and missing section of the tree trunk/branch at the rear of the figure (please see photographs). I have also found a crack running down the front of the central figure's left leg. In addition, there is general age-related wear to the painted decoration, glaze wear, small chips and typical firing imperfections consistent with Georgian pearlware. I have not found any obvious restoration, and the figures' fingers appear to be intact. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and condition.
A genuine late Georgian English pearlware figure group, offered in original antique condition and displaying well despite the faults mentioned above. An appealing addition to a collection of 18th-century English pottery.
