Koiki comes in a small paper box containing 10 grams of tobacco. The very finely shredded tobacco is contained in a waxed paper bag. It is convenient and easy to carry around. Tsuge Seisakusho was commissioned to make a smoking pipe as compact as possible and this Koiki smoking pipe was produced by them. [Smoked pipe] Born in the Keicho era it was widely enjoyed as an everyday item until the Meiji era when cigarettes became popular. During the Edo period samurai had custom-made smoking pipes to their liking and they owned them as a status symbol and an expression of their aspirations.
