Offered here is a 1951 Mexican facsimile edition of Historia de las Indias by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, published by Editora Nacional, S.A., Mexico City.

This important historical work chronicles the early Spanish presence in the Americas and is presented here in a facsimile of the José M. Vigil 1877 edition. The volume includes the striking portrait frontispiece of Bartolomé de las Casas and retains its period red hardcover binding. The 1951 edition was issued as a two-volume work.

This listing is for Tomo I only. It is particularly well suited to a collector seeking an individual replacement volume, a researcher interested in Mexican historical publishing, or a buyer comfortable preserving/restoring an older reference copy.

The binding is heavily worn and in need of conservation or repair. Much of the spine covering is gone, exposing the underlying binding structure and threads. The boards show wear and fraying, especially along the spine edge. Interior pages display expected age toning but the photographed text remains clear and readable. An R. G. Baker bookplate is affixed inside the front cover.

Please use the photographs as the primary guide to cosmetic and binding condition.
