Charming antique English sterling silver cased pocket pencil, hallmarked for Birmingham 1921.

The long silver protective cap bears the Birmingham anchor, lion passant sterling silver mark and date letter W for 1921. A maker's mark is also present but is heavily worn and unfortunately cannot be identified with confidence.

The smaller silver pencil holder/fitting carries corresponding lion passant and W date letter marks.

The piece separates into three components: the long silver protective cap, the silver holder/fitting and the short wooden pencil. When assembled it forms a very compact pocket pencil measuring approximately 6cm long.

Total weight including the wooden pencil is approximately 3.7g.

The wooden pencil has been used and sharpened.

Condition: Antique used condition with considerable age-related wear. The silver outer cap has a number of small dents and dings and is not completely smooth. There is also tarnishing, surface scratching, rubbing and general wear. The silver has an aged, unpolished appearance. The maker's mark is heavily worn and cannot be confidently identified.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and show the condition, hallmarks and construction of the pencil.

An interesting and unusual small piece of early 20th-century English sterling silver and a nice collectible writing accessory.
