**A VERY COMMON COIN IN A VERY UNCOMMON CONDITION** Late issues from the ‘Gallic Empire’ are usually found to be struck from subpar metal or to have been very poorly engraved, thus having the appearance of ‘barbarous radiates’ instead of official/semi-official issues; there is debate over just where the coins of Tetricus and Victorinus were minted, with some attributed to Cologne and Trier, while more recently receiving an attribution to ‘Southern Gallic Mint’ or a traveling military mint, much like those used by Caesar, Antony and Brutus/Cassius; the quality of this specimen is, in my professional opinion, much too fine and well struck to have been issued from such a travelling mint, thus I tend to agree with the attribution of the mint as Cologne, or as the Roman called it ‘Colonia Agrippinensis’, which of course is where Cologne gets its name!
