An exceptional antique throne-style chair with an imposing heraldic crest, featuring two beautifully carved rampant lions positioned around a central shield.

The chair has an extraordinarily decorative high back, barley twist columns, carved foliage, turned stretchers and extensive hand-carved detailing throughout. Its dark aged finish and deep brown leather upholstery give it a dramatic, historic presence.

Believed to date from the late Victorian or early Edwardian period, this is a genuine statement piece that would look magnificent in a library, entrance hall, study, historic interior, boutique hotel or theatrical setting.

The chair retains its aged leather upholstery. The leather shows considerable age-related wear, particularly around the outer edging and decorative studwork. We have deliberately left it untouched because the aged leather and surface patina form an important part of the chair’s character.

A future owner could have the leather replaced relatively easily if preferred, although we feel the existing upholstery gives the chair a wonderfully authentic appearance.

Condition:

The chair is presented in genuine antique condition with expected marks, rubbing, surface wear and patina throughout.

There are two small previous repairs around the lower leg area, both shown clearly in the close-up photographs.

There is also a small amount of movement within the frame. It is not excessive, although a buyer intending to use the chair regularly may wish to have the joints professionally tightened.

The leather edging is worn and partially deteriorated in places, as photographed.

These condition points have been fully considered within the asking price. A fully restored example with new upholstery would be offered considerably higher.
