Offered here is an exceptionally well-preserved original EMI Emitape "EDI-TALL" AP123 professional tape jointing (splicing) block, complete with its original factory box.

This is a genuine vintage British-made editing tool from the golden age of analogue recording, manufactured by the Emitape Division of EMI Sales & Service Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, England.

Finding one is uncommon.

Finding one complete with its original box, original tissue wrapping, and in this condition is exceptionally rare.

Judging by the condition of both the block and packaging, I believe this example is very likely New Old Stock (NOS) or has seen little to no actual use. The machining marks remain crisp, the engraved lettering is sharp, the chrome finish is excellent, and there are virtually no signs of tape wear within the guide channels.

History

Emitape was the professional magnetic tape division of EMI (Electric & Musical Industries), one of the world's most influential recording companies. Beyond manufacturing tape, EMI developed many of the professional accessories used in recording studios and broadcast facilities throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Equipment carrying the Emitape name was used by recording engineers, broadcasters, mastering facilities, and studios during the peak years of analogue tape recording.

The EDI-TALL Jointing Block (Model AP123) was introduced in the early 1960s as part of EMI's professional editing accessory range. Contemporary EMI literature promoted it as making tape editing "so easy to handle," and it became a respected tool among engineers for its precision machining and robust construction.

Condition

This is one of the finest examples I have encountered.

The original red Emitape presentation box remains in excellent condition with bright graphics and minimal wear.

The original tissue wrapping is still present.

The splicing block itself displays:

• Bright original chrome finish

• Clean tape guide channels

• Clean 45° and 90° cutting slots

• Minimal handling marks

• No corrosion

• No evidence of heavy studio use
