JÁNOS APÁTFALVI CZENE
Hungarian Village Landscape
Signed Oil Painting on Canvas
A quietly atmospheric rural landscape attributed to Hungarian painter
János Apátfalvi Czene (1904–1984).
The composition depicts a winding village road bordered by wooden fences,
white houses, dense trees and a small figure dressed in red. The restrained
palette of olive green, ochre, muted blue and violet gives the scene a
poetic, late-season atmosphere.
Unlike the artist’s more formal interiors and still lifes, this landscape
is painted with broad, expressive brushwork and simplified masses of color.
The red-clothed figure provides a subtle focal point within the otherwise
quiet rural setting.
