Tokai SS-36 Silver Star ST Type 1982 Japan Electric Guitar Shipping From Japan
The Silver Star is a tribute line from Tokai that faithfully reproduces the ST-Style guitars of the CBS era (1970s). It features the hallmarks of that period, including a large headstock, a "bullet" truss rod, and a 3-bolt neck plate with a Micro-Tilt adjustment system. These instruments were manufactured by Tokai Gakki, the company that would later produce many of the acclaimed Fender Japan models.
Unlike the "Springy Sound" and "Gold Star" series—which were primarily exported—the Silver Star was sold mainly within Japan, making well-preserved examples difficult to find overseas. Produced during Tokai's "Golden Era" (1978–1983)—the same period that saw the creation of the Springy Sound models used by Stevie Ray Vaughan—the Silver Star is renowned for the same high build quality that makes those other models so popular among collectors.
Tokai successfully refined the 3-bolt neck joint—a feature that Fender itself struggled with during the CBS era—ensuring it functions reliably in practice. As a result, this 70s-style ST model is often praised for being easier to play than the original American-made versions.
