Jewish Holocaust Poland Litzmannstadt Lodz Ghetto Isentity Card Certificate
This unissued identity card (Identitäts-Karte) originated from the Litzmannstadt (Lodz) Ghetto during World War II. Printed on tan cardstock, the front cover includes the German text DER AELTESTE DER JUDEN IN LITZMANNSTADT (The Elder of the Jews in Litzmannstadt) positioned above a printed six-pointed star and the document title. The interior left panel provides designated spaces for a photograph (Lichtbild), a fingerprint (Fingerabdruck), and the signature of the identification holder. The interior right panel features a section titled Personalien with nine numbered fields for entering personal details: name, first name, parents names, date of birth, place of birth, status, religion, profession, and remarks. A placeholder for a stamp (Stempel) is located at the bottom center. The lower right corner contains the printed facsimile signature of Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski, identified as the Elder of the Jews in Litzmannstadt, and notes the ABT. STANDESAMT (Civil Registry Department). The card remains blank and unissued, with a handwritten number 97 within a circle in the upper right corner of the interior page.
