This heavily embossed vintage postcard depicts a dramatic illustration of Paul Revere's historic midnight ride on April 18, 1775. The central image shows Revere on horseback galloping past a moonlit colonial home and church, framed dramatically by a draped American flag with gold stars and a gilded border. It was published by the renowned Raphael Tuck & Sons as part of their "Independence Day" Series of Post Cards (No. 159) and was printed in Saxony.
The divided back is unposted. The card exhibits noticeable wear, particularly rounding, creasing, and surface chipping at the corners—most prominently on the top left. There is also general edge wear along the gold border, typical surface aging, toning on the reverse, and a light pencil marking within the stamp box.
Although this famous illustration—and many others like it—depicts Paul Revere riding a striking white horse, historical records indicate that the horse he borrowed for his midnight ride from merchant John Larkin was actually a mare named "Brown Beauty."
