Antique Tintype Photograph of Victorian Gentleman –
Original Ferrotype on Iron Plate – 3.5" x 2.5"
Description
Offered is an original 19th-century tintype (ferrotype) photograph
depicting a well-dressed Victorian gentleman.
The portrait shows a young man wearing a tailored three-piece suit,
patterned necktie, and neatly groomed mustache and goatee, reflecting the
fashion of the late Victorian era, likely dating from the 1880s–1890s.
His confident seated pose and formal studio portrait make this an attractive
example of early photographic portraiture.
The photograph is an original image on a thin iron plate (tintype) and is
offered without a case, exactly as found. The reverse displays the
characteristic dark lacquered finish typical of authentic tintypes.
Item Details
An excellent addition to any collection of Victorian photography,
tintypes, genealogy, fashion history, Americana, or early photographic
processes.
Condition
Good antique condition for its age of well over 100 years. The image
retains good contrast and clear facial detail. There are scattered surface
scratches, minor emulsion flakes, and small spots of age-related wear,
primarily around the edges, consistent with antique tintypes that were
originally carried in albums or cases. The reverse shows expected oxidation and
age patina. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important
part of the description.
