Description
Offered is an original antique tintype (ferrotype) photograph
housed in its original decorative thermoplastic (Union) case.
The portrait depicts an unidentified Victorian-era woman dressed in a
dark formal gown with a white lace collar and brooch. Her hairstyle and
clothing are characteristic of the mid-19th century, likely dating to
the 1860s, although the exact date is unknown. The painted studio
backdrop featuring a river landscape and bridge is typical of portrait
photography from this period. The photograph remains mounted behind its
original brass mat and protective cover. Tintypes became popular beginning in
the 1850s, and cased examples such as this were especially common during the
late 1850s and early 1860s.
The exterior case features an attractive embossed floral design with a
central urn motif. The original brass mat and preserver are present. Please
examine all photographs carefully for cosmetic condition and signs of age.
