Overview
The electronic throttle is a core component of the intake system of electronically controlled fuel injection engines. It is controlled by the ECU (Engine Control Unit) through a built-in motor, which precisely adjusts the throttle opening based on the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor, thereby replacing the traditional mechanical cable-operated throttle control method.
Main components
• Throttle Position Sensor (TPS): Provides real-time feedback on throttle opening to the ECU
• Butterfly Valve: Controls the opening and closing of the intake passage
• Throttle control motor/actuator: Receives ECU commands to drive valve plate movement
• Flange and throttle body housing: Connect the intake manifold to the intake duct
• Accelerator pedal position sensor (APP sensor): transmits the driver's pedal depth signal to the ECU (associated control system)

Installation/replacement steps
1. Safety preparation: Turn off the engine → Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery → Wait for the engine to cool down completely → Seal the air intake with a clean cloth to prevent foreign objects from falling into the cylinder
2. Disassemble peripheral components: Remove the intake pipe assembly from the air filter to the throttle valve, unplug the throttle valve electrical connector, and remove all vacuum pipes and coolant hoses
3. Remove the old throttle valve: Loosen the throttle body fixing bolts in a diagonal sequence → Remove the old throttle valve assembly → Discard the old sealing gasket (not reusable)
4. Clean the installation surface: Use a lint-free cloth dipped in a dedicated throttle cleaner to thoroughly remove carbon deposits from the intake manifold flange surface, ensuring no oil residue remains
5. Installing a new throttle valve: Place a brand-new sealing gasket → Align the throttle valve locating pin and install the new throttle valve assembly → Tighten all bolts by hand for preliminary fixation → Gradually tighten them in 2-3 steps diagonally to the specified torque (usually 8–12 N·m, subject to the maintenance manual) to avoid flange deformation or air leakage
6. Restore peripheral connections: Reconnect the throttle electrical plug (hear the "click" sound indicating locking) → reinstall the intake pipe and tighten the clamp → check all pipeline connections for looseness
7. Restore power supply: reconnect the negative terminal of the battery
8. ECU adaptive matching (key step): Perform throttle/idle self-learning procedure (see instructions below) → Clear historical fault codes → Start engine to check idle stability → Road test to verify no abnormal fluctuations in idle speed under working conditions
Precautions
• The sealing gasket must be replaced: Reusing the old sealing gasket can easily lead to air leaks in the intake system, resulting in high idle speed, unstable engine operation, and even the activation of the fault light
• Strictly prevent foreign objects from entering the cylinder: During the disassembly process, it is essential to block the intake manifold port. Any small debris falling into it may scratch the piston or damage the cylinder wall
• Mandatory requirement for power-off operation: Before disassembling or assembling the Electronic Throttle Body (ETB), the negative terminal of the battery must be disconnected to avoid short-circuiting the ECU circuit or inadvertently triggering the protection mode
• Strict torque control: The tightening torque of bolts must be precise and up to standard. Over-tightening can cause deformation of the aluminum alloy throttle body, while under-tightening can lead to air leaks, directly affecting the engine's intake accuracy
