Fascinating Great Depression item from the 1932 Crusade to Washington - "The American Unemployed". More famously known as the Bonus Army—it was a massive protest by 20,000 to 45,000 World War I veterans and their families who marched on Washington, D.C.. Desperate for relief during the Depression, they demanded the immediate cash payment for wartime service.

Without detailing the sad consequences, Hoover, McArthur, Patton, Eisenhower were all very aware of the planned government violent response.
