Premium Vintage Ephemera & Collectibles
Vintage printed postcard featuring a photograph of three dressed cats having a picnic from the "Genuine Frees Animal Series" by photographer Harry Whittier Frees. Copyrighted in 1932 by Manning Publishing Co. (Woman's World Magazine), the card is postmarked 1935 from South Haven, Michigan.
American photographer Harry Whittier Frees (1879–1953) became internationally famous for his novelty photographs of posed, dressed animals. To achieve these incredibly complex shots, Frees utilized custom miniature clothing stiffened with hidden pins, hidden wires, and custom-built miniature furniture to hold the live animals in human-like poses for the duration of the long exposure times required by early 20th-century camera equipment.
