Vintage World War II military service scrapbook compiled by U.S. Marine Corporal Robert Keith McDonald of Auburn, Maine. Includes over 60 pages (not all shown) of photographs of himself and service buddies, newspaper clippings related to his service, postcards, various merit certificates, letters, telegrams, military insignia patches, and his Honorable Discharge dated November 21, 1945. It also includes a five-page handwritten time line of his service at Parris Island; Camp Lejeune in New River, North Carolina; the Philadelphia Navy Yard; Quantico, Virginia; the Pacific Fleet in San Francisco, and elsewhere. Towards the back there are clippings and memorabilia of his pre-military life in Auburn, Maine including education at Edward Little High School in Auburn, featuring sports, theater and graduation. Measures approximately 11.75 x 14.5. Condition:This is an original WWII scrapbook. The pages have age browning and the edges are fragile, and the back cover is detatched. It appears to be mostly complete and in fact has some loose additions made later. Comments: His obituary states: Robert Keith McDonald was born November 13, 1923 in Lewiston, Maine and died at the age of 85 on January 25, 2009 in Lewiston. He was the son of Ray McDonald and Irene Hodgden. He was a 1941 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine. Bob joined the United States Marine Corps serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, he was employed for Wirthmore Feeds in Malden, Massachusetts while attending Northeast University in Boston. Following college he was manager of Paine Incense Company in Lewiston until his retirement in 1989. He was bestowed with full United States Marine Corps Military Honors at his Memorial Service. |
