This striking ukiyo-e print depicts the kabuki actor Nakamura Shikan in the role of Taira no Kiyomori.
The composition features a large central figure wearing an elaborately decorated robe with powerful dragon and bird motifs, surrounded by architectural details and additional figures.
The decorative border, vivid red architectural elements, detailed costume patterns, and large-scale actor portrait create a distinctive and highly decorative composition.
The artist’s signature, “Toyohara Kunichika hitsu,” can be seen on the right side of the print.
This is an original antique woodblock print from the Meiji period, not a modern reproduction.
