An authentic Georgian lacquered papier-mâché bottle coaster dating from the early 19th century.

The coaster has a black lacquered finish with attractive hand-painted gilt floral and scrolling decoration in a traditional Regency style. It was originally intended to hold a wine bottle or decanter on the dining table, protecting polished surfaces from drips while providing an elegant presentation.

The interior retains its original black finish, while the underside is lined with green baize, much of which survives. The coaster has a rolled rim typical of early papier-mâché examples.

Condition:
Good honest antique condition for its age, with expected wear throughout. The green baize base shows wear and staining from age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

A genuine Georgian decorative object, ideal for collectors of Regency dining antiques, lacquerware or period country house furnishings.
