A great original rare (Texas) 1923 government issued Prohibition Prescription for Whiskey ~ One Pint...Sig: One ounce three times a day! There were five Prohibition issues and the State of Texas must have had a law in which the prescriptions had to be returned on a monthly basis. Please see photo!
This prescription was the second of five, issued by the Treasury Department during the Prohibition and was used for a short period of time, late 1922 to early 1924.
From the days of Al Capone, speakeasies and moonshine this was the only legal way to get liquor in the US!
The whiskey was prescribed for Mary Fay, by Dr. John Howell, on May 8, 1923 and was filled on May 9, 1923 by Pharmacist, Howard D'Spain, of the Dean Drug Co., in Cisco, TX.
It was issued by the Treasury Department and printed on blue paper with large Treasury Seals. When you hold this prescription up to the light PROHIBITION is watermarked, as with the metal strips that are used in U.S. bills today.
The prescription measures 6 1/2" x 4 3/4", has two pin holes, two folds and light bends, otherwise, condition is excellent...a great Texas whiskey prescription!
This is a FANTASTIC piece of history and would be great to display in a pharmacy, doctor's office, museum, bar or office! Also a great gift or an addition to a collection of pharmacy, US Currency, medicine, Capone, bar, Americana, stamps and DEA items!
Pleased to combine shipping with other Prohibition Prescriptions, Liquor Licenses, Opium Forms & Pharmacy Labels. As always, many thanks to my regular customers for your continued patronage! :)
