An original vintage postcard featuring a monochrome photogravure view titled "69. ECCLESBOURNE CLIFFS HASTINGS. - JUDGES LTD." The front captures the dramatic coastal landscape of Hastings East Hill, showing the old Coastguard cottages nestled in the lower glen with their prominent chimney pots, set against a winding hillside track leading up toward the towering cliff edge overlooking the sea. The reverse side remains unposted and unused, featuring a clean divided back layout under the printed heading "PHOTOGRAVURE. POSTCARD PICTURE BY JUDGES' LTD., HASTINGS ENGLAND."

Background Information

Ecclesbourne Glen and its surrounding cliffs form part of the scenic Hastings Country Park in East Sussex, a sprawling area of historic sandstone cliffs and wooded valleys situated just east of the Old Town. The cottages pictured in the glen originally served as an isolated station for coastguards monitoring the channel for smugglers during the 19th century before the site became a favoured destination for Edwardian and mid-20th-century walkers. Judges Ltd., established in Hastings by photographer Fred Judge in 1902, was widely celebrated for its high-quality, artistic photogravure and real photographic postcards documenting the rugged natural beauty of the south coast.
