Your
bid is for Volume 2, Number 3, of the NEW ENGLAND STATES LIMITED magazine dated
Winter 1978-79. This issue contains 36 pages and measures a standard 21.6 by
28.0 cm with Donald B. Valentine, Jr., as Editor and Publisher. The front cover
depicts the New Haven's first RDC along the Quinnebaug River on 03 September
1952. The rear cover is two more color photos: an RDC running near Groton,
Connecticut, and New Haven Mike 3016 all dolled up for acting in IT HAPPENED TO
JANE. The locomotive was the ONLY reason to ever watch this movie according to
the critics! The usual front-end features, including New England Rail News with
4 photos, are followed by a 5 page work by Francis D. Donovan called THE
DISASTER AT BAKER BRIDGE, which occurred on the B&M's Fitchburg route in
1905 in Lincoln, Massachusetts. 17 died, 20 injured, the locomotive engineer,
seemingly at fault, arrested, and held under $10,000 bail. What did the Grand
Jury have to say? 6 photos are included but only one is of the wreck scene.
Then Part 3 of CONNECTICUT RAILROADS by Gregg Turner and Alice Ramsdell
features the Norwich & Worcester RR covering 15 pages, including a loco
roster, 18 photos, several maps interesting drawings and footnotes. And yet
three more pages on the boat connections from New York City. Depots shown are
at West Thompson, Plainfield and Dayville. RAILROADS CHARTERED TO SERVE NEW
ENGLAND (PART 1) by the late L. Peter Cornwall is arranged in alphabetical
order and covers A & B on 3 pages. This is followed by The Back Shop
featuring B&M and New Haven cabeese (buggies & hacks) with 4 fine
photos and tips on modeling same. This magazine is in excellent, unread,
new-old-stock, museum-quality condition. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. Please see my
other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal
service while trying to keep things simple. Please check my feedback and DSR's.
Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus
eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally
ship the first day after the auction ends IF eBay provides a packing slip.
