VINTAGE ESTATE SALE FIND!!!  1950s Robert Allison RA Scotland Sterling & Agate Basket Hilt Sword Kilt Pin Brooch!!!   NO RESERVE!!!!

PLEASE NOTE MY TERMS BELOW. THEY APPLY TO ALL SALES AND YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS BY BIDDING.   THANKS!

Up for Bids is a 1950s Robert Allison "RA" Scotland Sterling & Agate Basket Hilt Sword Kilt Pin Brooch that I picked up at a local Estate Sale.   This Beautiful Sword Brooch is marked "RA SCOTLAND".  I can faintly make out a shield and I believe it to be the British Lion mark representing Sterling Silver.  It also appears that the remainder of the shield marks for date and city did not imprint properly as would typically found on Robert Allison jewelry.   I put a magnet to the Brooch and the actual sword did not attract but the pin and clasps attached to the back did attract so it is not solid sterling.  Some light tarnish on the back from age but I did not attempt to clean it.  Otherwise nice, vintage condition as you can see in my photos.  Please ask any questions you may have before Bidding.

An iconic piece of mid-century Scottish craftsmanship, this circa 1950s kilt pin by renowned jeweler Robert Allison is a striking example of traditional Highland jewelry design. Crafted in silver, the bold basket hilt sword form makes a dramatic statement as either a kilt pin or a brooch.  The 2.5 inch long pin showcases classic green Scottish agate from Montrose, paired with richly colored orange jasper from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire. At the hilt, a glowing citrine sphere enclosed in the basket—traditionally associated with the Cairngorm mountain range—adds a warm, luminous accent that contrasts beautifully with the cool silver and agate tones.  Stamped RA, a Lion in a shield, and Scotland, this piece is authentic Scottish manufacture. Substantial, historic, and highly collectible, it is both a wearable statement of cultural pride and a museum-worthy example of Scottish jewelry heritage.

About Robert Allison:

Robert Allison was a highly renowned 20th-century Scottish silversmith celebrated for his exceptional Celtic and Scottish Revival jewelry. Active primarily from his workshop in the Gorbals area of Glasgow starting in 1941, Allison specialized in traditional Highland accessories like kilt pins, plaid brooches, and lapel pins. Having learned his trade in Birmingham before returning to Scotland, Allison was heavily inspired by the famous Iona silver designs of Alexander Ritchie. He frequently adapted these clean, historical patterns into his own work.  His miniature sword designs are among his most iconic and collectible creations.

Gemstones and Accents: While many pieces rely strictly on beautifully oxidized sterling silver, select sword brooches are set with vivid, traditional gemstones like citrine, smoky quartz, jasper, and moss agate.

Maker's Mark: Look for his distinct stamp consisting of the initials "RA" (typically enclosed in an oval block).
