Has happened to me. Make sure follow all CD laser safety procedures when handling and installing. Make sure the controller circuits are in working order. Warranty only covers replacement of defective device. If there is no replacement available. A refund will be given as per E-Bay policies. Does not cover replacement labor/time to remove and replace defective optical device. 
Have copies of the Ford/Sony service manuals available. F32F/F58F/F6SF-18C821. Sony manuals are also very detailed on the service of these mechanisms.
