If you have ever wanted to build a creature in 3D from a blank scene to a finished render, this book takes you through the entire pipeline in Blender. It begins with installation, initial settings and interface basics, then moves straight into the work itself, so you always know where you are in the process.
The early chapters cover creature design thinking, where you study real animals, decide on habitat and world setting, and sketch rough concepts that make the creature believable. From there you block out a base model from simple shapes, refine the silhouette, and then retopologize into a clean low-poly mesh with UVs ready for the next stage. Multiresolution sculpting adds scales, wrinkles and scars, and baking turns that detail into normal maps applied back to the model.
The later half is about finishing. You hand-paint the skin, mouth interior, claws and eyes, adding color variation, grime and gloss for realism, then rig with Rigify so the creature can move, pose it, and light it as a finished piece. The final chapter covers volume settings, compositing and rendering to make the image itself as striking as the model.
The text is in Japanese, and the workflow is presented through step-by-step screens and images across 448 pages, so you can follow the operations visually. Part of the Compass Books series, published by Mynavi Publishing. Brand new.
