Roman Imperial – Hadrian – Æ Sestertius (AD 121–123), Rome Mint

A large and magnificent bronze Sestertius from the height of the Roman Empire, struck at the Rome mint under the reign of the great Emperor Hadrian.

A large sestertius of Hadrian, depicting Minerva in a refined sacrificial pose. Large module, strong iconography, and a scarce reverse type make this an excellent collector's piece.

Description:

• Obverse:  Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right. IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG
• Reverse:  Minerva, helmeted and draped, standing left, dropping incense on a candelabrum with her right hand and holding a vertical spear in her left; a round shield rests against her left side, with a serpent coiled upon it.  PM TR P COS III . The letters  SC  (Senatus Consulto) are in the exergue.

• Condition:  Fine  with a nice brown toning. A large, heavy coin with a nice smooth surface. Please see photos for your own assessment
