Description:
Up for sale is a certified, historical US Original 1st Pressing of the definitive 1988 New Jack Swing blueprint album "Guy" by the absolute genre pioneers Guy, released on the classic rainbow-clouds MCA / Uptown Records label (Cat# MCA-42176).
Written, arranged, and produced by the legendary musical wizard Teddy Riley alongside Gene Griffin (for G.R. Productions) and executive produced by Andre Harrell, this multi-platinum self-titled debut stands as the ultimate foundation stone of the New Jack Swing movement. By masterfully fusing raw street hip-hop drum loops with lush, soulful vocal harmonies from Aaron Hall and Teddy Riley, this historic album completely transformed modern black music.
The tracklist is absolutely stacked from top to bottom with foundational urban anthems including "Groove Me" (4:48), "Teddy's Jam" (3:30), "I Like" (4:40), the high-energy club burner "Don't Clap... Just Dance" (4:59), and the monumental, slow-jam masterpiece "Piece Of My Love" (5:21).
This true US first pressing boasts elite, audiophile-grade mastering pedigree cut directly from the original studio master reels. The deadwax features the highly coveted hand-etched signature and smiley face "Herbie Jr :>)" of the absolute mastering legend Herbie Powers Jr., paired with the authentic "FW2" matrix etching confirming it was hand-cut at the world-renowned Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs in New York. This specific variant delivers thunderous low-end bass synth drive, snappy snare transients, and incredible vocal presence that digital reissues can never duplicate.
This incredible copy remains beautifully preserved inside its original factory shrink wrap (opened cleanly at the edge), fully shielding the custom graphic picture sleeve from face wear, yellowing, or ring soil. It proudly retains its original, large neon-pink factory hype sticker on the front, along with vintage retail price stickers.
A pristine, historically vital analog centerpiece for any serious 1980s Funk, Contemporary R&B, New Jack Swing, or Teddy Riley vinyl completist!

Condition Report:
Vinyl Condition: VG+ (Very Good Plus). Beautiful glossy vinyl record retaining a strong original factory shine. Under close inspection beneath bright direct light, it shows only a few minor, faint paper sleeve scuffs and superficial cosmetic hairlines from standard careful handling over the years that do not affect playback. The custom Uptown Records labels are exceptionally clean, bright, and completely free of any post-retail writing, stamps, or stickers. Spindle hole shows minimal wear. Plays with immense analog power, sharp punchy mid-range, and hard-hitting New Jack swing bass punch.
Cover Condition: VG+ (Very Good Plus). Solid and structurally sound original vintage cardboard jacket with nice, crisp front graphics. Housed and preserved inside its original factory shrink wrap since 1988 (opened cleanly at the edge), protecting the jacket from surface scuffs and face soil. Shows only minor storage softening to the corners and typical light shelf aging along the exposed opening edge. Spine and seams remain fully stable and completely intact with no splits. Pink hype sticker is smooth and vibrant.
