Rare Antique Wax Head Silk Thread Boudoir Couple Figures on Box c1910-20

Description

An exceptionally rare and captivating pair of antique boudoir figures measuring approximately 8–9 inches tall including their original box base. These unusual figures feature delicately modeled wax heads with hand-painted facial features and bodies fashioned from lustrous silk thread and fibers, creating a striking and highly decorative effect.

The elegant lady wears an extravagant coiffure and flowing skirt composed of soft silk fibers, while her gentleman companion is dressed in coordinating attire with a wide-brimmed hat and scarf. Hand in hand, they form a wonderfully romantic and theatrical tableau that is evocative of the Belle Époque and early Jazz Age.

The pair remain mounted to their original covered box base, which opens to reveal a lined interior compartment. The original purpose of the box is uncertain, perhaps intended for jewelry, keepsakes, or sewing accessories.

These fascinating figures possess tremendous display appeal and are seldom encountered. I have rarely seen another example quite like them.
