Vintage educational card issued by the National Audubon Society featuring the Brown headed Cowbird, Molothrus ater, illustrated in color with an adult male and female perched on branches. The reverse is from the Audible Audubon series and includes detailed natural history text discussing the species’ parasitic nesting behavior, historical association with bison herds, egg laying habits in the nests of other birds, summer feeding behavior around cattle, size, and geographic range across North America. Copyright dated 1970 by the National Audubon Society, with bird sounds used by permission of the Laboratory of Ornithology at Cornell University. The card appears unused with no writing or postal markings and shows age related surface wear and gloss disturbance consistent with long term storage. A classic example of Audubon bird ephemera appealing to collectors of ornithology material, wildlife postcards, nature education items, and National Audubon Society publications.
