This lot contains a simply stunning complete restored 21 jewel Model 556 Elgin A. F. U.S. ARMY A-11 Pristine World War II Running Military Men’s Restored Wristwatch. Yes, I said 21 jewels! This is the very desirable and all but impossible to find model 556. The watch is completely restored, winds, sets and runs beautifully. This is a typical 8/0 Men's military vintage mechanical wristwatch. The watch has an immaculate crystal, white baton style hands, white sub second hand, immaculate black dial with white Arabic hour numerals and a white 1/5 of a second chapter ring. The watch has a sub seconds bit not a sweep second hand and the movement does not have the hack feature. The watch has its original stem in perfect oversized correct crown. The watch case is 32 millimeters in diameter and has a good bezel and back cover. The bezel and back cover both screw on and off. These are not snap on bezels, these are screw on bezels with and oyster style edging on the bezel. Again, both of these bezels front and back screw on and off with ease. They are clean and crisp in the back cover is fully signed made for the United States government. The back cover is signed Elgin A. F. U.S. ARMY A-11 and has all the proper ordinance, serial and specific numbers associated with the military watch of this age. I tested this watch for 72 hours and the dial up position and it was right on. The watch has a clean, running model 556 nickel 21 jewel movement. This movement is basically all but impossible to find in this application. We never find the 21 jewel movement in the men's military Elgin A. F. U.S. ARMY A-11 wristwatch. The watch has a military style stitched black rubber waterproof strap. It simply gets no better and no rarer than this for the Elgin military wristwatch. The Elgin 556 model was approved and started production in 1941.
