This is a lovely, Pair of Antique George II Period Sterling Silver Sugar Nips with Scissor Operation.
This style of sugar nip was prevalent between about 1720 and 1770.
They are only partially hallmarked with the Lion Passant to denote that they are Sterling Silver, and the maker's mark of Henry Plumpton, which dates them to around 1750.
They are engraved with two monograms presumably the original owner and a later owner.
Tired antique condition, light scratches and light tarnish, but the handles are quite misshapen and the shell shaped nips meet off centre . The hallmarks are clear.
The nips are 11 cm long, and weigh 35 g.
