Sound board compatible with PC-8801FH/MH, compatible with PC-8801-24.
This is a compatible replacement for the Sound Board II (Sound Board 2) for the PC-8801FH/PC-8801MH.
This is for FH/MH only. It is not compatible with other models.
This board connects to a dedicated slot located inside the main unit's cover.
After connecting to the dedicated slot, switch the black switch on the main unit, located near the dedicated slot, to the back of the unit.
The SR/TR/FR/MR models of the PC-8801 series control Sound Board 2 using the A8H, A9H, ACH, and ADH I/O ports.
FH/MH models have different I/O ports, controlled by 44H, 45H, 46H, and 47H.
Model identification is left to the software, and many programs use the N88-BASIC ROM version for identification.
The sound chip is the same YM2608B as the original,
One important point to note about this board is that it only supports ADPCM playback; recording is not possible.
Since genuine parts have recently become very expensive at auctions, I tried making one myself by referring to information and materials found online.
These are my own creations. I made several, so I'm offering them to anyone who can make use of them.
I confirmed that sound playback is possible with the following games when connected to the dedicated slot on the PC-8801FH.
I haven't tried the others yet.

Since it contains different components than the original board, the sound output and tone quality will not be exactly the same and will likely be different.

When connecting to the dedicated slot, be careful not to misalign the connector pins. There are also power pins, so if you start the device with the pins misaligned, it could potentially damage the device.
I was originally an 88SR user, but now I like the FH and use it.
I like it because it's a 2D drive, so I don't have to worry about the floppy disk write width, and it has a CMT terminal. With the Sound Board 2 installed, it's more versatile than the FA, which I appreciate.
