Super rare Midnight version of the Corum Bubble Divers Automatic Chronograph.

This particular version was designed by Severin Wunderman, the exceptional owner of the brand from 2000 until his death in 2008.

Special features include a tough rubber coating over the watch case. A bizarre choice of finish for a luxury watch but the idea is it’s a dive watch that wears it’s own wetsuit. Looks amazing and is fully intact on this watch.

Another cool feature about the case is that underneath the rubber coating the case has been given a full polished finish. If the rubber was removed you would then have a standard polished steel corum bubble. I doubt anyone has chosen to do this but it certainly crossed my mind.

The dial is another area where Wunderman had fun. The main dial is a stunning black grey carbon weave, as a modern nod to fishing nets, while the sub-dials are bronze, each gaining it’s own individual patina. Te bronze is obviously a reference to the original diver’s helmets.

The watch comes on the original rubber strap with double folding clasp. Sized to fit 18cm wrist there is room for just over 1cm of micro adjustment so maximum wrist size 19cm. Watch does look good on any 24mm strap and also surprisingly good on a jet black nato with silver or black hardwear.

This watch does not wear anywhere near as large as you would think and you really don’t even notice the huge crystal when wearing it… until you look at it of course. The lugs curve down and it has been super comfortable on my 18cm wrist. It’s big but the case is a lot sleeker than it first appears. It definitely wears smaller than a Panerai or most modern Breitlings and has been a great all day watch. Tough enough to wear for action but carries enough class to wear to the club or card table.

I’ve owned watch for a year, no problems with timekeeping or chronograph movement. Top pusher has got stuck a couple of times and as with any mechanical watch I would advise a service to maintain the movement but good news is that movement is Valjoux so any watch maker should be able to service cheaply.
