From the inside flap of the dust jacket:
Harry Truman has always identified with the American people, and his amazing political success testifies to his innate ability to speak their language and bring himself close to them.As President, Truman possessed a human and canny wit, tension-puncturing, down-to-earth. His forthright humor quickly gained national attention. At news conferences, reporters waited for the word or phrase which would bring the chuckle and the hearty laugh; his campaign humor became outstanding in political history. Even when he returned to the role of Mr. Citizen, his pungent remarks continued to make news.
Here for the first time in one book are hundreds of Harry Truman's witticisms. They present Truman at his best and most incisive moments as politician, family man, and citizen.
Many of the humorous stories in the book are related to epoch-making decisions and tell the story of history in the making.
