Handmade Wooden Backgammon Set with Engraved Mount Ararat, Beech and Plywood, Large 23.6" (60 cm)

This handmade backgammon set (nardi) is made of beech wood and plywood, with a 60 x 60 cm (23.6 x 23.6 in) board, featuring an engraved Mount Ararat. Every set is hand-processed, given a varnished finish and fitted with brass hinges and locks.

Mount Ararat, Armenia's national symbol revered as a "Holy Mountain", is engraved on the board. According to the Book of Genesis, Noah's ark came to rest here after the flood; its two peaks are Masis (5,165 m) and Sis (3,925 m). The reverse side is laid out for checkers (draughts). A distinctive gift for backgammon players, collectors and lovers of fine woodwork.

About this model (SKU 16030): The lid is lightly engraved with a landscape, and Mount Ararat's two peaks, two small clouds and the word "ARMENIA" stand out in a pale cream tone against the grained brown wood, with fine lattice along the edges. Inside, the points and rosettes of the playing field are also pale cream, and on the reverse side pale squares alternate with wood-tone squares on the checkers field.
