O R,
CORNELIUS NEPOS’s
LIVES
OF THE
EXCELLENT COMMANDERS:

With an English translation, as literal as possible;
and large explanatory Notes.

By Mr ROBERT AAROL
Late Master of the Grammar-school of GREENOCK

The SECOND EDITION

EDINBURGH
Printed by A. DONALDSON and J. REID
For ALEXANDER DONALDSON
MDCCLXI
(1761)

Bound in full contemporary sheep and measures approx 18cm x 11.9cm x 2.6cm. As can be seen from the images the binding is rather surface worn and scuffed, and the extremities are bumped and a little chipped. The top board is a little bowed to edges. The spine covering is surface worn and beginning to chip and tear. The top and bottom edges are chipped with loss, and headbands broken. The front hinge is cracking and worn and thus the board has some movement. The rear board remains firmer. Internally, the front and rear free endpapers are lacking, although rear blank is present. The remaining endpapers are heavily browned, stained and marked. The front pastedown has started to peel from board. The rear blank has in early ink name.  The title page is similarly heavily browned, and marked with a partially scored out inscription, and is a little worn/torn to inner margin edge. The contents have, light grubbiness, toning/browning and scattered staining throughout with a couple of small rust holes, marks and creases. The following leaf has a further scored out ink name and a chip to the top corner with loss. The text block is starting to strain. Readable and complete. Latin and English text.

xvi, 247, [1] p. Complete.
