Antique porcelain vanity / dresser tray manufactured by Havaland & Co. in Limoges, France. Based on the underglaze maker's mark on the back ("H & Co. / L / FRANCE"), this piece dates between 1888 and 1896.
The rectangular tray measures approximately 11 inches long and has a heavily embossed scalloped rim. The center is beautifully hand-painted with a detailed design of pink and orange chrysanthemum blossoms (spider mums) accented by soft green foliage. Excellent structural condition with absolutely No chips, cracks, hairline fractures, or crazing. The hand-painted floral artwork is bright and intact. There is honest, age-appropriate wear to the gold gilding along the high ridges of the ruffled edge from handling over the past 130+ years, allowing the white porcelain to peek through in spots (please see photos for details). This natural patina adds wonderful historic character to the piece. Perfect as a functional dresser tray for jewelry, cosmetics, or perfumes, or as a display piece for a Limoges collector.
