The story follows David Balfour, a young orphaned man who goes to claim his rightful inheritance from his treacherous uncle, Ebenezer. Instead of giving him his fortune, Ebenezer tricks David, traps him, and has him kidnapped onto a ship bound for the American colonies, where he is meant to be sold into indentured servitude.
