An original 1944 wartime paperback edition of Politics Made Plain: What the Next General Election Will Really Be About by T. L. Horabin, published by Penguin Books as part of its influential Penguin Specials series.

Written by Thomas Lewis Horabin, Liberal MP for North Cornwall, this contemporary political work examines British politics between the two World Wars and argues for a radical change of direction following the end of the Second World War.

Horabin criticises Conservative governments of the inter-war years, discussing the General Strike of 1926, the economic crisis of 1931, appeasement and Britain’s preparations for war. He advocates social reform, greater economic equality and cooperation between progressive political parties ahead of the forthcoming General Election.

The book provides an interesting insight into wartime political debate and the arguments surrounding Britain’s post-war future, shortly before the 1945 General Election.
