Cambridgeshire-born Terry Reid had decamped to California by the time fourth album Seed of Memory appeared in 1976, and the sunshine seems to have got into the furniture. Graham Nash produces, whilst David Lindley adds acoustic/slide guitar to a softer, looser set than Reid's earlier blues-rock records. 'Brave Awakening' drifts beautifully on high harmonies, and 'To Be Treated Rite' has something altogether more uneasy lurking under its acoustic skin. 'Ooh Baby' gets a little dirt back under the nails with its funk-blues shuffle. Reid may have moved west, but thankfully he didn't leave the grit at customs.
