Maximilian Carl Emil Weber (21 April 1864 – 14 June 1920) was a German sociologist, historian, jurist, and political economist who was one of the central figures in the development of sociology and the social sciences more generally. Among his best known works are "The 'Objectivity' of Knowledge in Social Science and Social Policy", "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism" and "Economy and Society". 

EBF Midgley was a Catholic scholar at the University of Aberdeen with a particular interest in Natural Law theory. In The Ideology of Max Weber, he offers a critical evaluation of Weber's ideology of value-choice and examines Weber's misperceptions concerning natural law and moral and political philosophy.
