1967 Germany Postcard Using Unused Reich Era Card Held Over 30 Years Scenic View
Interesting and unusual piece of German postal history. Offered is an original German scenic postcard depicting "Abend in den Ennstaler Bergen" (Evening in the Ennstal Mountains), originally produced during the Reich period by Photo-Hoffmann of Munich. Rather than being used during the 1930s or 1940s, this card remained unused for more than three decades and was eventually mailed in 1967, creating a fascinating crossover between two different periods of German history.
The card bears a 20 Pfennig Deutsche Bundespost Europa stamp and a 1967 Munich cancellation. The reverse shows a lengthy handwritten message, and the postcard was sent to Hobenstadt. Such examples illustrate how older stock of postcards continued to be used long after the war and make interesting additions to collections of both Reich memorabilia and postwar German postal history.
