This is a Gaf 2588-Z, Standard 8, Super 8 movie projector
dating from the late 60’s to early 70’s. It has been cleaned,
serviced and refurbished and is fully operational. It offers the
following features:
1. Switch selectable between standard 8
and super 8 format. A 1/4 to 1/2 inch spindle adapter is included for super 8
films.
2. Automatic film threading.
3. It provides a Still setting and automatic
rewind.
4. Zoom capability on the projection
lens.
5. A standard 110V output line that
switches off when the projector is powered on. This can be used to turn a room light off and
on when operating the movie projector.
6. A small cutter is provided in the
base of the unit so that the film leader can be properly trimmed.
7. A take up spool is included in the
lid of the unit.
8. A reproduction of the instruction
manual for the 2788/2688 models is included. This manual is useful as the
description of operation is very similar to this unit.
The unit has been cleaned and lubricated. The most common
deterioration in these units is that the main drive belt and the small rubber
friction rollers turn brittle and break. This unit has been fitted with a brand
new drive belt ($20 value) and new friction rollers. The other drive
belts are in good order.
The other most common failure is the lamp. Originally these
units came with a large bulb that was easily broken. The lamp has been replaced with a brand new
longer-life, modern bulb and reflector (a $75 value).
The unit was tested with various standard 8 and super 8
films and there were no issues. All functions (forward, rewind, etc.) operated
correctly
