This red Bedouin kilim runner is a handwoven Egyptian wool rug in deep madder red, a classic Bedouin flat weave.

Fine ivory and black stripes band the field, punctuated by hand-woven diamonds and saw-tooth triangles in orange, cream and charcoal. It was woven on a traditional pit loom and finished with hand-knotted fringe at both ends. The natural, low-luster wool shows slight color variation, and small irregularities in the weave, the selvedge and the pattern are normal in a handwoven piece. Small enough for a hallway, bedside, entryway or reading nook, and light enough to hang on the wall as a textile panel; the warm red and orange palette sits well with wood, rattan, leather and terracotta.
