Vintage Louvre Museum Sumerian Foundation Tablet – Bronze Museum Reproduction
A fascinating and unusual bronze reproduction of an ancient Sumerian foundation tablet, produced by L’Art du Bronze in association with the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, France.
The piece is based on an original work held in the Department of Near Eastern Antiquities at the Louvre Museum, Paris.
The original tablet dates to approximately 2100 BC, during the reign of Shulgi, King of Ur, and relates to the foundation of the temple of the goddess Nanshe at Girsu.
The bronze tablet features wonderfully detailed raised Sumerian cuneiform script and measures approximately 90mm x 60mm.
This example is particularly nice as it retains its original fitted brown pouch together with the original French museum information leaflet, which explains the history and translation of the tablet.
The leaflet states:
“Interprétation en bronze par L’ART DU BRONZE”

A superb little museum collectible and an unusual piece for collectors of ancient history, Mesopotamian/Sumerian art, cuneiform, Louvre museum reproductions or French bronzes.
Condition: Vintage condition with some age-related surface wear/patina. Original pouch and leaflet show some age/storage wear. Please study photographs as these form part of the description.
Please note: This is an authorised/reproduction museum piece based upon the ancient Louvre original; it is not an ancient archaeological artefact.
Really gorgeous piece in its original pouch and paper work
