Coming right off the heels of Headhunters, Herbie Hancock's 1974 Death Wish score channels that same rhythmic sophistication into something considerably darker and more restrained. 'Death Wish (Main Title)' sets the mood with proper tension that is moody and understated rather than overly dramatic, while 'Joanna's Theme' pulls back into something more delicate and melodic. Elsewhere, tracks like 'Do A Thing' and 'Fill Your Hand' and show Hancock moving fluidly between acoustic jazz, deep funk and electronic textures but always with that same restless genre-blending instinct that defined his best 70s work. This is a cult classic whether you're a jazz head or film score buff.
