This vintage SEIKO EL-370 Electronic Watch from Japan is a rare and collectible timepiece, manufactured in April 1971. It features a unique hybrid movement, combining mechanical and quartz technology, known as an electromagnetic tremp electronic watch. Produced during a brief period from 1969 to 1972, the EL-370 is considered a "phantom technology" as it disappeared quickly with the rise of quartz watches.
The watch is powered by a battery, replacing the traditional mainspring, yet it vibrates like a mechanical watch, offering a smooth sweeping seconds hand. Despite its age, the black dial with bar indices remains vibrant and well-preserved. The watch comes with an Orient-made strap, complementing its vintage aesthetic. Its innovative concept influenced modern Spring Drive models, including Grand Seiko.
