The Era depicted: This specific logo dates back to May 3, 1982, when the powerhouse news/talk AM station expanded its programming. It began a limited simulcast onto the newly rebranded KGO-FM at 103.7 MHz (following the end of the previous rock station, KSFX)

Format & Dominance:

Under the direction of legendary station manager Mickey Luckoff, KGO reigned supreme as the top-rated radio station in the San Francisco market for an unprecedented 30 consecutive years (from 1978 to 2009). It was renowned for its stellar local hosts, robust news team, and high-quality talk format.

Retirement of the Call Sign:

The historic news/talk programming format abruptly came to an end in October 2022 when owner Cumulus Media shifted the frequency to sports betting. Following further market changes, the legendary KGO AM call sign was officially retired on January 1, 2025. The historic 810 AM frequency now carries the programming and call letters of its sister station, KSFO.
