Emily McPherson College Household Cookery Vintage Australian Cookbook Melbourne

Vintage Household Cookery from the Emily McPherson College of Domestic Economy in Melbourne, a wonderful piece of Australian culinary and social history. Compiled from the College’s Grade I cookery notes, the recipes were developed and tested by its cookery teachers for the teaching of elementary cookery. It contains an extensive collection of traditional recipes alongside practical instruction in cooking methods, meal planning, food values and cuts of meat. Recipes include old fashioned Australian favourites and wonderfully period dishes such as boiled sheep’s head, braised rabbit, fricasseed sheep tongues, brown stew, puddings, biscuits, soups, sauces, meats and vegetables. A particularly appealing vintage cookbook for collectors of Australian cookery, Melbourne history, domestic economy and historic food culture.

Green cloth hardcover with the Emily McPherson College emblem to the front. In well used vintage condition with general cover wear, age toning and browning to the pages and endpapers. The front hinge is significantly weakened and exposed internally as photographed, although the cover remains attached. There is a former student’s handwritten name and reference to MacRobertson’s Girls’ High School on the front endpaper, adding an interesting piece of Melbourne educational provenance. Please see photographs carefully for condition.
