An original letter from the Committee of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, co-operating with the George Washington Memorial Association, reporting resolutions adopted at the Society's Twenty-first Annual Congress (Toledo, Ohio, May 2-3, 1910) endorsing a plan to erect a George Washington Memorial Building in Washington, D.C., and soliciting subscriptions of one dollar or more toward its construction.
The letter is signed in type and by hand by the Committee: Charles D. Walcott, Chairman - Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and a member of the Advisory Board of the George Washington Memorial Association (Walcott served as Smithsonian Secretary from 1907 to 1927 and is one of the most prominent American scientists and administrators of the era); a Treasury Department official; and Rear Admiral Yates Stirling, U.S.N., Retired, President of the Maryland Society, Sons of the American Revolution.
Addressed to Mr. Hiram E. Deats of Flemington, N.J., a well-known New Jersey bibliophile and antiquarian of the period.
